A new approach to
the old technique of Aquatint.
Mediterranean
buildings, windows, doorways, hand painted soft pastel watercolors. These
warm, imaginative images make up the art of Johanna Stocker. The current
series began in 1999 after a trip to Venice, when Johanna returned with
dozens of beautiful photographic images featuring the architectural details
and textures of Italian buildings.
Johanna wanted to find
a way to express her personal feelings about the subjects, and to convey the
softness and rich pigmentation that film simply cannot capture. To do this,
Johanna came up with a new approach to the old technique of Aquatint.
